Out of curiosity if you had to choose between playing video games the rest of your life or watching anime, which would you choose???
My choose is with games, partially because in the last several years I have not been able to keep up with anything new in the anime world. I think games have come so far to the point of telling more engaging stories than anime can. For story the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid series comes to mind, but with titles like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus video games have proven themselves, in my opinion, to be a great form of art and expression. Ah I love games! _________________ "Beat your best time, and steal your shoes from you..."

For the money I put in each, I would get a lot more time out of games for every dollar spent, and I enjoy games every bit as much as anime. So games. _________________

While I'd agree that video games have matured immensely over the last decade while a large part of anime has reverted to some of its lesser tropes, I'd still say anime trumps video games in terms of potential. Both mediums share a massively superior advantage over film in regards to directorial control but anime is more cost-effective.
Games certainly have an advantage when it comes to immersion but they're not quite to the point to where they've escaped the occasional snap from suspended disbelief with rendering differences between cutscenes vs. gameplay, perennial lip-sync issus and less than stellar input options to name a few. In face I'm really curious about how Kinect will alter the gameplay experience, particularly in regard to immersion.
But price per [admittedly ambiguous] unit of directorial control, anime remains far, far cheaper to produce than a game and, since it's effectively rendered "offline", it doesn't have the limitations that games often have when rendering frames in realtime.
I'd honestly hate to give up either but, if forced, video games would have to be a close second. _________________ Anime Collection ~ Figure Gallery |
